An automatic recloser is an electrical switch used in electricity distribution networks. Reclosers detect both transient and permanent faults and can automatically restore power after a short delay if the fault is temporary. The special feature of the automatic recloser is that it attempts to automatically restore the circuit after an initial opening. If the fault is temporary, it resets itself and restores power. Circuit-breakers and reclosers complement each other: circuit-breakers interrupt power in the event of a fault, while reclosers attempt to restore power quickly by testing whether the fault is temporary.
